                                                                      POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

 

TITLE:   SCHOOL NURSE

                  2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR

                 GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP CAMPUS

 

DEADLINE: This position will be filled in no less than ten (10) days after the date of this posting.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 1.  Possession of or be eligible for a valid New Jersey School Nurse Certificate.

 

 2.  Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

      Certificate.

 

 3.  Demonstrated expertise in school health nursing practice and emergency procedures.

 

 4.  Knowledge of child growth and development, community and family dynamics, current health

      issues, and wellness education.

 

 5.  Knowledge of community health and social services resources and ability to communicate

      effectively with non-school health professionals and social service agencies.

 

 6.   Successfully undergo a criminal history check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal

       resident alien status.

 

 7.  Meets the health qualifications required of all personnel.

 

 8.  Meets NJ residency requirements or willingness to relocate to NJ

      within 365 days of employment.

 

 9.  Must follow the guidelines of the Camden County Technical Schools'

      Nepotism Policy, File Code: 0142.1.

 

Salary is based on education, experience and/or military service according to the Board of Education of the Camden County Technical Schools and Cam/Voc Education Association Agreement Salary Guide - $58,656-$92,982.

POSITION GOALS:   To promote health and safety in the school environment and provide health

                                 services to students, faculty and staff; to assist with the teaching of sound

                                 health practice (if School Nurse, Instructional).

 

REPORTS TO:            Supervisor assigned per the CCTS’ Organizational Chart

 

PERFORMANCE

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1.  Work in cooperation with the school physician, other school health professionals (e.g. dentist,

       non-certified nurses, and optometrist), members of the staff, parents/legal guardians and community

       health professionals to ensure a healthy school climate and to minimize absence due to illness.

 

  2.  Conduct health services and screening programs as required by law and/or board policies.

 

  3.  Schedule and supervise health surveys of students and staff. Assist the school physician with

       physical examinations; make referrals and conduct follow-up activities as necessary.

 

  4.  Provide emergency care in case of sudden illness and administer first-aid in case of injury

       to students or staff according to established policies and procedures. Is responsible for the

       availability and maintenance of required medical supplies and equipment.

 

  5.  Maintain up-to-date health records on all students; maintain separate records of immunizations

       for the purpose of immunization record auditor and ensure their confidentiality; maintain health

       records on Realtime.

 

  6.  Help prevent and control communicable disease through lectures, inspections, exclusion and

       re-admission of students and staff in keeping with state and local health regulations and school

       policies.

 

  7.  Notify principal or his/her designee to arrange for immediate examination of any pupil who appears to

       be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs; confers with substance awareness coordinator

       (if applicable).

 

  8.  Confer with and advise students, parents/legal guardians, and staff members on matters pertaining to

       the health and safety of students. Participate in the development and implementation of the district’s

       emergency and crisis management plan.

 

  9.  Assist the principal and/or the director of special education and the child study team in the

       identification and placement of students with disabilities who need special education services; attend

       child study team meeting and 504 meetings as directed.

 

10.  Write and update, at least annually, any written healthcare provisions required under Section 504

       of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 29 U.S.C. 794(a), for any student who requires them.

 

11.  Participate in the development of a comprehensive health education curriculum and serves as

       a health/safety education resource person to teachers. Upon request, assist teachers with instruction

       of certain health units, if certified.

 

12.  Promote healthy/safe school environment by assisting the administration and staff to maintain safe

       and sanitary conditions throughout the school. Report problems promptly to the principal.

 

13.  Administer prescribed medication to students in accordance with law and board policy. Provide

       training and supervision of the emergency administration of epinephrine for designated school

       staff.

 

14.  Collaborate with community and other non-school health agencies to meet the health needs

       of children and families.

 

15.  Provide special health care and related services to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

 

16.  Assist the principal with the preparation of the school's health budget.

 

17.  Maintain professional competence through in-service education and participation in other professional

       development activities. Receive training in the treatment of asthma and maintain a valid current

       Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificate as required

       by law and administrative code.

 

18.  Assist in the development of policies and procedures for comprehensive health education and

       services.

 

19.  Develop and maintain the annual School Nursing Plan in conjunction with the superintendent

       and the school physician. The annual School Nursing Plan will include a description of basic nursing

       services provided; a summary of specific medical needs of individual students and how they will be

       addressed; a description of emergency nursing services; detailed nursing assignments for all school

       buildings; and a description of nursing and additional medical services to nonpublic schools.

 

20.  Prepare health and safety reports as required by law and/or requested by the principal.

 

21.  Report any suspicion of child abuse to the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS)

       and the district DYFS liaison by district policy/procedure.

 

22.  Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor assigned per the CCTS’ Organizational

       Chart/or designee.  School Nurse (Teaching) 23. School nurses certified to provide classroom

       instruction shall plan and execute the lesson as instructed by the principal.
